Before you buy a puppy:
Visit the puppy where it was bred and raised:
Are they being kept as clean as possible, with all
their needs met?
Are all other animals on the place being kept responsibly?
Do the parent dogs meet all breed standards?
Look at their pedigrees, don't take anything for granted.
Ask questions.
Never buy a purebred pup without it's papers in hand!
Make sure you have shot records and a written
warranty for your pup.
Trust yourself. Do you feel the breeder is being
honest with you?
A good breeder will try to help you be in the real
world about what
responsible dog ownership means. A good breeder
will not sell you a dog
unless they feel you understand and will be a responsible
owner. It is very
expensive and a lot of work to keep and breed purebred dogs, but to a good
breeder, it is not about the money, but about the
love of the breed.
